"We're not anti-anybody."

Dolan Says Church Is ‘Caricatured’ as Antigay - NYTimes.com

You can be whatever you like, but if you want to do something I don't like, you can't do that. Wanting to do naughty things is perfectly normal. Doing naughty things will get ya eternity in Hell.

  1. Let's take a less politically charged issue, like missing mass on Sunday or a holy day of obligation. Such people also go to Hell (according to Catholic teaching).

So would it be fair to say "The Church is Anti-Lax Churchgoer?" In one sense, sure. But that would essentially mean that the church is "anti-" the vast majority of people on the planet, and even the vast majority of Catholics. Does that make any sense?

The phrase "anti-gay" has a different connotation than simply "we don't approve of what you're doing," and that's part of the dishonesty of homosexual rhetoric. Anything less than full approval is treated like persecution.

  2. Right. In fact, I was poking fun at the press' complete lack of understanding of nuance, as in when the Pope made his earlier statements on gays and the press thought he was changing doctrine.

  3. A friend of mine likes to say that when the press speaks about religion you should deduct 20 IQ points. I think the reality is that when the press speaks you should deduct 20 IQ points.
